The Innocence Project
Part 1:
For the first half of the semester juniors at High Tech High worked with the California Innocence Project (CIP) by reviewing real inmates' case files who claim to be innocent. After reviewing their case files students then presented their analysis and recommendation on whether to close their case or open it for further investigation to CIP law students at Cal Western Law School. Students learned legal terms, Constitutional rights, and reasons why wrongful incarceration is a phenomena in our criminal justice system. Below are photos from this semester. Part 2:
The prison population of the United States accounts for 25% of the world’s prisoners, but the U.S. represents only 4% of the world’s population. Why? In an attempt to answer that and other revolving questions High Tech High students wrote a piece of literature named "Land of the Free". The goal of this work is to educate the public about the potential for miscarriages of justice. It contains pieces of flash fiction written by our students. These are short and imaginative works of creative writing inspired by true events, explained in context and accompanied by proposed solutions. If you have the privilege to know, you have the duty to act. Please Click Here for a PDF of "Land of the Free" |
